The Employment Relations
Act 2000 (ERA) provides for multi party collective
agreements (MPCA). The
ERA requires Unions to first ballot their members
to obtain a mandate to seek a MPCA. Multi party
collective agreements can be either multi Union
(MUCA) or multi Employer (MECA) documents. The
RMTU has policy developed out of our annual delegates
conferences that we are to seek multi party collective
agreements wherever possible to enhance our industrial
strength.
The Union is strongly of the opinion that MPCA's
provide workers with the strongest power and influence
in their employment bargaining with the employer
and additionally the greatest flexibility of movement
within the employer parties to a MPCA. Accordingly
the Union encourages members to vote in favour
of MECA's.
